Interior Trends for Events 2017
When it comes to styling, interior design trends are a major influence and in 2017 we think a few will feature heavily when clients want an up-to-the-minute look. The AC is famous for being different, so this blog discusses less obvious design trends; after all, it’s common knowledge that the Pantone colour of the year is ‘greenery’, so it only gets a quick mention here. How cool would a crisp white linen tablecloth and plates look with greenery coloured glasses on a summer dinner table?
This retro material adds a warm, natural feel and texture to floors, matting, tablewear and even walls, giving a rustic, relaxed look and could translate to events in table scaping, wall décor, bars etc. And yes, if you’re wondering, cork really does grow on trees.
Plants, Plants, Plants
Bringing ‘greenery’ into the home and clothing is big news. All things tropical featured in Marc Jacobs, Prada, and Emanuel Ungaro’s fashion collections. Consider replacing table flowers with plants in cork pots or an eclectic array of both. Add big, floor-standing plants in decorative pots, less ‘cheesy’ than the old 1980’s cheese plant, but more architectural, like a Bonsai or Paradise Palm, or place plants in troughs to add drama and class to any space. They’re great for the environment too, removing unwanted gases from the air, including lesser known ones from cigarette smoke, fabric softener, cosmetics and carpet cleaner. Mini and micro plants can add a natural ‘quirk’ to canapé trays. Incidentally, eclectic is also a word on the tip of top designer’s lips.
Tropical Prints and Texture
Adding texture to a room with wall coverings, cushions, throws and flooring will transform a bland, cold looking interior to a warm, inviting refuge. Likewise, varying textures for an event design will influence the feel enormously and promote the eclectic look that is so popular. Tropical print cushions and linen fit perfectly with the colour of the year, as well as our new love of plants and will add a real wow factor to a summer party or BBQ or use it for a spectacular bar like this one.
Walls, windows and floors will be adorned with large and small versions of these bold prints and a big revival of wallpaper. Add drama to tables by cleverly laying different coloured cloths in geometric patterns, papered or painted wall panels or draped fabrics in marquees and modern spaces. Square shaped canapés can be presented in a geometric pattern for a dramatic style.
Light up your event with spectacular illumination. It’s all about something quirky this year. Lights hidden behind pelmets and shelving, down and up lit walls or bring out the child in us with these balloon lights. Speak to your event planner about their ideas for your event. After all, great lighting will make or break an event as well as a home design.
This colour featured heavily in 2016 and is set to be around for some years to come. It comes in a multitude of shades, taupe/grey, green/grey, blue/grey etc. Adding linen or furniture in varying shades of grey will add a restful look or add drama by adding a harsher, steel grey for furnishings or cloths. Take inspiration from the paint manufacturer, Little Green. It comes in a vast array of colours and is voted no.1 by top decorators. Take a look at their grey colour card
Whichever trend or look you prefer, our designers use their knowledge and skill to create beautiful, quirky, interesting and elegant spaces, food and tables just to suit your party.
