Reduce

Our suppliers have been requested to deliver our produce in minimal packaging

We select suppliers who source their produce from within the UK and as far as possible from within the south of the UK to reduce food miles

All menus are seasonal and changes three times a year to reduce food miles and champion British produce

All vehicles in the fleet were replaced in 2021 to meet the clean emissions regulations and includes one electric vehicle

Staff are encourages to cycle or use public transport for meetings and events. Where shared taxis are used these are always electric.

Staff use filter water bottles and drink tap water rather than having a water cooler installed.

We reduce our energy consumption by turning off lights, computers and heating when leaving the office

Paper quotes are no longer sent unless specifically requested

We no longer produce printed marketing brochures

Recycle

Re-cycled products are selected where possible

Staff uniform waist coats are made from recycled plastic bottles

All paper, cardboard, plastics, aluminium, tin and glass is recycled

Water bottles used at events are all recyclable all refuse on site is separated for re-cycling.

All plastic containers are sent to a local recycling initiative who turn them into useful objects – some of these are used in our canape presentation.

All food waste is removed and reused in other processes meaning that we have zero food waste to landfill.

Food that can be used is donated to a local soup kitchen or to the Felix Project.

Cooking oil is professionally removed from site and re-cycled into bio fuel

Toner cartridges are re-cycled

Batteries are recycled through a local network

Initiatives Achieved

Having removed all single use plastics from our front of house event operation, including replacing the tea bags to be plastic free we set new targets for the coming years

Identifying and then reducing food waste by at least 10%.

Completing the replacement of all non ULEZ compliant vehicles in our fleet.

Reuse

Old design items that are no longer being used for events are donated to charity

Left over food is reused for staff lunch (saved and prepared within health and safety guidelines)

China plates and cutlery are provided for staff lunch and washed rather than disposables being used

Old paper print outs are used for scrap note paper

All flowers from our events are delivered to Floral Angels who make them into bouquets and arrangements for local hospices, retirement homes etc.

Key Supplier Initiatives

We are proud to work with suppliers who share our commitment to reducing their impact on the environment. These are some of their latest initiatives.

Our fresh produce supplier Foodari have partnered with the Woodland Trust to introduce a rewilding programme to plant saplings that are providing a new habitat for wildlife to help offset the carbon emissions and natural habitat damage from their work.

We have two coffee partners, both of whom do fantastic work in the community.

We use Mozzo in our pop up cafes – they set up a fund to ensure that every purchase of coffee directly and positively impacts the community it came from, having achieved their goal of supporting financial self sufficiency for the first ever maternity clinic on Idjwi Island in the DRC they have now moved the project to Nicaragua.

Old Spike, who we use for events, have a primary mission of helping to reduce homelessness in the UK through training and employment. 65% of their profits are re-invested into supporting this social mission. They also support the environment; for every bag of coffee sold a tree is planted in partnership with the Eden Reforestation Project.

HG Walter our meat supplier only work with red tractor approved farms in the UK and can supply farm to kitchen miles and full provenance for all meats.

Upper Scale our fish supplier help us keep up to date with the Marine Conservation Society Good Fish Guide, ensuring that we use the very best quality fish from sustainable or responsibly farmed sources.

We are proud to support small local suppliers throughout our business such as Galetta Bakery, Myatt’s Field’s cocktails, Old Spike, Mull and Hackney Gelato.

Accreditations

The reduction and offsetting of carbon emissions is a critical part of our ongoing sustainability goal. The Admirable Crichton, as part of Group Genuine is an ISO 14001 accredited company and as such we have many environmental initiatives across our business that we share with our clients to ensure that we are reducing our emissions together, with a coordinated approach.

We are proud signatories of the UN Global Compact which encourages strategies for achieving net zero

We are proud to support the principles of the Terra Carta and this document informs our policies

As a group we have begun our journey to B-corp accreditation.

We only work with farmers who supply Red Tractor approved meats and we have signed the Sustain Pledge to ensure all of our eggs are free range.

We are currently working with Auditel to capture and manage our carbon data

Replace staff water bottles at events with cartons or starch bottles.

Sponsor an additional 40 Beltie Cows.

Social Impact

We are partnering with Make it Wild to offset the carbon emissions produced by our kitchens, office, warehouse and vehicles and offer our clients the chance to so the same for their events.

The trees we are planting in Yorkshire will absorb carbon, produce oxygen and support insects, birds and small mammals – and will do so for decades to come! Woodland creation is a fantastic way to bring about a huge increase in biodiversity! From the moment the trees are planted, the lack of mowing or grazing means that the grass between the trees is allowed to grow. As trees grow, they cause local shade and cooling. Even on a small scale, this creates a variety of microclimates which support different wildlife.

Once there are fruits on the trees they become food for birds, small mammals and insects. When the trees drop their leaves they contribute to soil improvement, this is the carbon-rich basis for healthy soil. Trees provide shelter and a wind break; they filter and clean fresh water; they reduce flooding and their roots stabilise soils, preventing erosion.

The rewilding process is so important to a healthy ecosystem. This dynamic process means that humans stand back and let nature take control. Conservation grazing by native cattle and other animals is an important element in many rewilding projects.  Research has shown that managing land using the principles of rewilding has a fantastic impact on biodiversity.

We are sponsoring Miss Moo, the first of many of Crichton’s Beltie Cows who will live a long and happy life grazing on the land where our trees are growing and supporting this rewilding initiative.
